History of The Lincoln Club of Delaware

Founded in 1929, the Lincoln Club of Delaware has a long tradition of honoring the life, leadership, and legacy of Abraham Lincoln.

The Lincoln Club of Delaware began as an informal group in 1929 and was formally established in 1941 as a non-partisan organization. From its founding, the Club has been dedicated to promoting a deeper understanding of Abraham Lincoln’s ideals, leadership, and lasting impact on the United States.

For decades, the Club has brought together members, scholars, and guests to reflect on Lincoln’s legacy through events, discussions, and educational programs. Its annual memorial dinner, held each February in honor of Lincoln’s birthday, has become a central tradition and a defining part of the Club’s identity.

Throughout its history, the Club has hosted distinguished speakers, including political leaders, historians, and Lincoln scholars, offering a wide range of perspectives on Lincoln’s life and times. These events have helped preserve and expand appreciation for Lincoln’s role in shaping the nation.

In addition to its long-standing traditions, the Club continues to evolve by introducing new programs such as fall receptions and book discussions, ensuring that Lincoln’s legacy remains relevant and accessible to future generations.

Today, the Lincoln Club of Delaware remains committed to preserving history, fostering learning, and honoring one of America’s most influential leaders.
